Golf travel tips for Lisbon
“You simply have to take a golf holiday in Lisbon at some point in your golfing life!
That’s my view anyway… the Lisbon city region offers golf travellers literally everything you could wish for in a golf holiday. And even if you don’t want urban Lisbon as your base for your golf holiday here, then the areas to the North, South and West of the city itself offer some superb golf travel hotels and golf courses that are still within touching distance of the city.
Even arriving in Lisbon is easy compared to many other capital cities with the airport being located well within the city limits, so a short taxi ride or transfer takes you quickly to the downtown areas, or equally as quickly out to the golf resorts which are located right around the region. With transfer times of less than 90 mins to the furthest located golf resorts, Lisbon is simply one of the most convenient cities to enjoy a superb golf travel experience.
I’ve been coming here for almost 30 years now to play golf and during that time I’ve seen the city region develop into one of the most incredible golf destinations and now with the amazing clusters of golf courses to the north around Praia d’el Rey and Obidos, the Cascais and Estoril area to the west of the city and the latest hot golfing area to the south featuring the unrivalled Dunas de Comporta, now must be the time for you to share in the magic of golf in the Lisbon city region!” – Dan Thomson, Golf Travel Consultant.

FAQs about Golf in Lisbon
The Lisbon city golfing region features 20 golf courses - all of which are open to visiting players. From West Cliffs Golf Links in the north, to Oitavos Dunes in the west and down to the incredible Dunas de Comporta to the south of the city centre, Lisbon has a golf course for every golfer!
With a more seasonal climate than the famous south of Portugal, the pricing for a round of golf in the Lisbon area can be lower through the winter months than you may think and some of the excellent courses can offer multi-round golf packages from as low as £40pp per round at certain times of the year. Having said that, it is expected that the new Dunas and Terra courses at Comporta will eventually see green fees well into 3 figures, so now is definitely the time to play there before the prices increase!
Certainly the seasonal climate in Lisbon makes the late spring and early autumn the best time to play golf in the Lisbon area, but even in the high summer and the supposed depths of winter, the temperatures can still be good as the whole region generally never gets too hot or too cold.
There are so many great hotel options for golfers in Lisbon that it is hard to pick any out, however we recommend the Aroeira Golf & Sea Resort hotel to the south, the Evolutee at Royal Obidos to the north or the Onyria Quinta da Marinha to the west as 3 excellent golf resort hotels in the Lisbon area.
The closest golf hotel to the airport would be the Dolce Campo Real Resort which is located just north of the city centre, but with the excellent road network around the Lisbon city region nowhere is out of reach in good time with even the Octant Santiago well to the south of the city and the Praia d'el Rey and Evolutee Royal Obidos options to the north all being less than 90 mins from the airport.
