Overview

England can certainly be considered one of the world’s premier golf destinations, yet with all this golfing bounty right on our doorsteps it is somewhat surprising that it so frequently overlooked by travelling golfers who hail from the UK!  The prevailing weather that can be experienced (or endured) through any part of the year could be a reason for this, but don’t let that put you off… a golf break in England is certainly one of golf’s finest experiences if you can tolerate a bit of occasional wind and rain.

Top class golf courses of all styles, designed by some of golf’s greatest architects – including Mother Nature herself – abound throughout England, and with the full suite of golf course styles to be found in each of England’s golfing regions you are sure to easily find a golf holiday to suit your particular taste in golf course in any of England’s main golfing destinations.

Added to the fantastic selection of golf courses are the excellent golf resort hotels and other off-course accommodation in historic inland and seaside towns which perfectly complement the wonderful golf courses in their localities.

It’s so convenient to be able to jump in your car with the clubs in the boot and head to your golf holiday destination without the hassles of navigating the airport and tolerating a budget airline flight – and a golf holiday in England will be a very straightforward option for the majority of our clients.  Even if you are coming to England from another country you are sure to find the ease of access and convenience of a golf break in England to be an excellent choice.

The North-Western golfing region of England is probably the most famous stretch of superb golfing in the country with the Southport and Liverpool/Wirral areas featuring plenty of host courses of The Open, it’s qualifying series and other top-level professional and amateur events alike.

Alongside those stellar names such as Royal Liverpool Golf Club (Hoylake), Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham & St Anne’s are found more incredible courses including Pleasington, Southport & Ainsdale, Hesketh, Hillside, Formby West Lancashire and many, many more.  Heading even further to the north west you will find the amazing Silloth on Solway Golf Club which is one of the real hidden golfing gems of this amazing golf destination!

Stay and Play deals and packages are available at any of the excellent golf resorts in the North Western region of England, but for a different golfing experience why not enjoy a stay in one of the coastal towns and cities which offer a great combination of the best that the region has to offer culturally alongside easy access to the golf on your doorstep?  Stay in Liverpool, Lytham St Annes, Southport or on the Wirral for that authentic north western England golf break experience!

On the other hand, if you do prefer a stay with golf on-site, then the North-West’s choice of golf resorts is excellent and includes:

  • Macdonald Portal Hotel Golf & Spa
  • Macdonald Hill Valley
  • Wychwood Park
  • Carden Park Hotel
  • The Mere Golf Resort & Spa
  • Mottram Hall
  • Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf & Country Club
  • Formby Hall Resort

We can offer either bespoke packages including golf at your choice of courses and a stay in whichever town or resort you fancy, or alternatively Stay & Play deals are always available at any of your preferred golf resorts in the north-west of England, so just let us know your preference and we will be very pleased to do the rest!

The North East of England has enjoyed a real boost in its profile as a leading English golf travel destination over the last few years due to the success of the British Masters European Tour event which takes place at Close House.  However, don’t be fooled into thinking that golf in the North East is only about that one golf resort…

Although Close House is a truly excellent venue and top class golf resort for a stay and play break in the North East of England, there are other great options for a golf holiday at venues such as Rockcliffe Hall Hotel Golf & Spa, Slayley Hall with it’s 2 fantastic courses and the Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club.

Added to these stay and play options is the possibility to combine a city break in the cosmopolitan and lively city of Newcastle with golf at any number of regional courses that are close to the city including at Hexham, Northumberland, Close House and any of the other golf resorts as previously discussed…

England’s largest county offers a commensurate number of golf holiday options with great golf travel venues available throughout Yorkshire.

The highest profile cluster of quality golf courses in Yorkshire is to be found in the North Leeds/South York area and this features some of England’s finest golf courses in the likes of Moortown, Sandmoor, Alwoodley, Moor Allerton, Pannal and more, plus Fulford Golf Club which has been a European Tour venue on many occasions in the past.

Additionally the area around the city of Sheffield also offers a range of fantastic inland links-style courses including Lee Westwood’s home course at Lindrick which also boast Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick as members, alongside the high quality track at The Hallamshire in Sheffield.  Hallowes Golf Club is also a real hidden gem between Sheffield and Chesterfield (with “famous” members such as our very own sales director Jonathan Sharp!).

For it’s size and area however, Yorkshire has only a few golf resorts with Oulton Hall, Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa and Hollins Hall Golf & Country Club being the premier golf resort destinations in the county.

Yorkshire is also the home of The Golf Travel People, so for a great welcome and a quality golf travel experience do get in touch and we will be delighted to assist with your golf holiday plans in “God’s Own County”!

There’s little doubt that if asked the question, then most English golfers would probably select The Belfry as the highest profile and most famous golf resort in England, and having hosted the Ryder Cup more times than any other venue in the UK, Europe or the USA then it’s easy to understand why it has the profile it does.

However, golf breaks in the Midlands and Eastern England region really is about a whole lot more than just The Belfry!

Quality golf resorts abound with the Marriott group being particularly well represented with both the Marriott Forest of Arden and Marriott Breadsall Priory resorts offering a quality stay & play golf experience, alongside other excellent golf break destinations such as Belton Woods, Doubletree Hilton Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort and Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire – with the latter being the home of England Golf, plus Dunston Hall Golf Resort in Norfolk…

In recent years the option of a Norfolk Coast Golf Tour has proven to be increasingly popular with some fantastic high pedigree golf courses such as Royal West Norfolk, Sheringham, The Links Country Park, Royal Cromer and the ground-breaking new golf course at Royal Norwich offering the most fantastic and welcoming experience for visiting golfers.  For golf in the East Anglia region there are plenty of superb accommodation options both on the coast in picturesque towns such as Cromer and Sheringham, or in the county town of Norwich itself.

Northamptonshire is also a somewhat surprising golf destination with a choice of good quality stay and play venues such as Hellidon Lakes, the De Vere Staverton Estate and many more golf courses ready to welcome you to the county.

Finally – England’s south-western region… and what a golfing region it is!

With miles of rugged Atlantic coastline providing the backdrop to many of the South West’s fantastic golf courses, there are few finer locations to play golf in the UK than south western England…

With the seaside being the main draw for visitors to the south west, it’s no surprise that the top courses in this area tend to be found on the coasts with links courses like Royal North Devon (Westward Ho!), Saunton and Burnham & Berrow in North Devon being among the most famous golf courses in the area.

However there are more hidden gems in the south west such as the Manor House at Castle Combe, Lyme Regis Golf Club, Trevose Golf Club and the spectacular Church course at St Enodoc Golf Club allowing the golfing visitor to really experience golf in the south west in the most incredible surroundings.

Whilst the south west of England does not have as many true golf resorts as other regions of the country, its fair to say that there are plenty of other accommodation options throughout this region where the main industry is of course tourism, so finding somewhere to stay is easy and we are happy to add some excellent golf bookings onto any holiday booking that you may already have confirmed in the region…

However, if it is Stay and Play with resort golf that you are looking for then the following are our recommended options:

  • St Mellion International Resort
  • The Dorset Golf & Country Club
  • Bovey Castle Golf Resort
  • Carlyon Bay Golf Hotel, Spa & Golf
