Overview

Golf Son Vida is Mallorca’s oldest and most iconic golf course — the birthplace of golf on the island. Opened in 1964 and redesigned in 2001 by Kurt Rossknecht, it remains one of the most prestigious and beloved courses in Spain. Set within the elegant Son Vida estate just outside Palma, the 18-hole, par-71 layout combines classic design, historical charm and beautiful scenery, making it a must-play for any golfer visiting Mallorca.

The course was originally designed by Fred Hawtree and is steeped in golfing history. Son Vida hosted the Balearic Open on the European Tour in both 1990 and 1994, where legendary players such as Seve Ballesteros graced its fairways. Despite its heritage, the course feels timeless — challenging yet fair, mature yet well-maintained, and full of character.

Son Vida’s routing takes golfers through a series of tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain and picturesque elevation changes that provide both strategic intrigue and panoramic views. The first nine holes meander through lush residential areas and old pine groves, while the back nine open out into more expansive terrain, featuring elevated tees and impressive views of Palma and the surrounding countryside.

The course isn’t overly long — just under 6,000 metres from the back tees — but its subtle doglegs, sloping fairways and undulating greens make accuracy essential. Water hazards and bunkers are placed with precision, punishing the careless while rewarding thoughtful play. Each hole is framed by mature trees and Mediterranean vegetation, giving Son Vida a rich, natural atmosphere that feels both tranquil and grand.

The clubhouse — one of the most charming in Mallorca — reflects the course’s heritage and elegance. With its traditional architecture, shaded terrace and views over the 18th green, it’s a perfect setting for post-round relaxation. The facilities are shared with the Arabella Golf Mallorca network, including access to top-tier practice areas, pro shop, and luxury hotels such as Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel and Castillo Hotel Son Vida.

Golf Son Vida continues to be celebrated not only for its classic layout but for its historical prestige and consistent quality. It remains a symbol of Mallorca’s golfing tradition — timeless, scenic and full of character.
