Overview
Golf Son Gual is widely regarded as Mallorca’s finest golf course — a private, championship-level venue located just outside Palma. Opened in 2007 and designed by German architect Thomas Himmel, it has earned international acclaim for its immaculate conditioning, strategic design, and world-class facilities, ranking consistently among Europe’s top golf destinations.
Set within a vast 156-hectare estate, the course offers a magnificent parkland layout of 18 holes, par 72, stretching over 6,250 metres from the back tees. It features flowing fairways bordered by olive groves, wildflowers, and native vegetation, with perfectly sculpted bunkers, pristine water features, and elevated tees that frame panoramic views of the Tramuntana mountains and Palma’s skyline. Every detail of the course has been designed to combine beauty, precision, and playability.
The layout demands intelligent strategy rather than brute power. Wide landing areas off the tee are followed by well-protected greens that call for careful club selection and accuracy. Risk-reward opportunities abound, especially on the par 5s and short par 4s, which tempt longer hitters to attack but punish misjudged approaches. The greens are large, fast, and true — maintained to championship standards and renowned for their consistency.
Son Gual’s signature hole is the par-5 18th, a spectacular risk-reward finisher with a lake guarding the approach to a raised green beneath the clubhouse terrace. Other highlights include the par-4 10th with its sweeping dogleg left, and the par-3 16th playing downhill over water to a beautifully contoured green. The course is walking-friendly but demands strategic decision-making throughout, appealing to professionals and serious amateurs alike.
Beyond the course, Son Gual’s clubhouse sets the benchmark for luxury in Mallorcan golf. The stone-built design features expansive terraces overlooking the 18th hole, a fine-dining restaurant, members’ lounges, and top-tier locker facilities. The service is personal and professional, reflecting the club’s private ethos and attention to detail.
Golf Son Gual has hosted numerous prestigious events, including the 2009 European Senior Tour Mallorca Classic, and continues to be the preferred course for discerning players seeking excellence, tranquillity, and true championship golf in Mallorca.
