Overview

Canyamel Golf Club is one of Mallorca’s most scenic and characterful golf courses, located on the island’s tranquil north-east coast near Capdepera. Opened in 1988 and designed by the Spanish architect José Gancedo, it was created with minimal alteration to the natural landscape, preserving the contours, vegetation and stone features that make the area so unique.

The 18-hole, par-73 layout stretches through gently rolling countryside framed by pine trees, holm oaks, carob trees and open meadows. The fairways are beautifully maintained, the greens are known for their speed and precision, and the entire course feels harmoniously integrated with the surrounding nature. From several elevated tees, golfers can enjoy sweeping views over the Mediterranean Sea — and on clear days, even across to the island of Menorca.

Canyamel is famous for its distinctive holes. The 4th offers a spectacular sea view from the tee, while the 9th is truly unique: a centuries-old stone shepherd’s hut sits directly in the middle of the fairway, demanding strategic decision-making on every shot. The closing hole, the 18th, features a triple-tiered green with steep slopes and panoramic views from the clubhouse terrace — a memorable finish to any round.

The course strikes a balance between difficulty and playability. The front nine is tighter and more technical, rewarding precision and good course management, while the back nine is wider and more forgiving but still full of interest. It’s a course that tests both thought and touch rather than power alone.
