Overview

Assoufid Golf Club is one of Morocco’s most celebrated golf destinations, located just a short drive southwest of Marrakech. Opened in 2014 and designed by Scottish architect Niall Cameron, it sits on naturally undulating desert terrain framed by palm trees, olive groves and native cacti, all with the spectacular backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

The course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout stretching over 6,400 metres from the back tees. It follows the natural contours of the land, creating a design that feels organic rather than imposed — a hallmark of Cameron’s approach. The routing flows through wide desert fairways that rise and fall with the landscape, offering both visual drama and strategic variety.

Each hole has a distinct personality, defined by the interplay between elevation, light and natural desert vegetation. Generous fairways encourage bold tee shots, but well-placed bunkers and subtle green complexes demand thoughtful strategy. The greens are large, smooth and undulating, allowing for creative play, while the natural hazards — dry wadis, sandy waste areas and rocky ridges — maintain an authentic desert feel.

The course’s setting is unforgettable. From almost every hole, players enjoy panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains. The combination of Morocco’s vivid colours — golden sand, deep blue sky, green fairways — gives Assoufid an almost cinematic beauty. Despite its championship scale, the course remains highly playable, with five tee options catering to all skill levels.

Assoufid has earned widespread acclaim for both its design and its conditioning, often ranked among the best golf courses in Africa. The fairways are lush and well maintained, and the greens roll fast and true. The club’s environmental approach is also notable: the course was developed with minimal disruption to the natural desert terrain, preserving native plant life wherever possible.

The contemporary clubhouse offers first-class facilities including a stylish restaurant, bar and terrace with spectacular mountain views, while the service throughout the club reflects Moroccan hospitality at its finest. For golfers visiting Marrakech, Assoufid is the ultimate blend of challenge, beauty and refinement — a modern classic in the desert.
