Perched high on a hillside, just over the Portuguese border from Spain, Castro Marim Golf Club, boasts spectacular views of the Algarvian Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the Guadiana River and the Castro Marim nature reserve.
Cleverly carved out of the local topography, this superb course features 27 holes, offering 3 nine-hole loops- The Guadiana, The Atlantico and The Grouse providing a variety that you will never tire of.
The Guadiana and Atlântico courses are the most mature of the three courses, with attractive pine trees lining the fairways and featuring fast and true greens, several of them elevated and protected by bunkers with inviting elevated tees and dogleg fairways carved out of canyons. These courses reward accurate, rather than long, play from the tee. A great golfing challenge, and if the wind blows…! The fourth hole of the Atlantico course is widely regarded as the standout hole at Castro Marim and was featured in Jeff Barr’s book ‘1001 Golf Holes you Must Play Before you Die’.
The Grouse is the newest of the three nine holes with rolling terrain, sloping funnel-like fairways, fewer trees and more open, far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside.
Due to the hilly nature of this course, we would recommend the use of a buggy for all but the fittest golfers!
The castle-style club house has sweeping views over the entire course and the Spanish/Portuguese border and provides a fantastic setting for your 19th hole enjoyment.
