Golf Costa Adeje is one of the most impressive golf courses in the Canary Islands, located in a magnificent natural enclave, in the most exclusive area, near Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife, just 5 kilometres from Playa de las Americas and under 30 minutes drive from Tenerife South Airport.
Built on a former banana plantation and designed by José “Pepe” Gancedo, the club boasts an 18-hole, par 72 Championship course of a 9-hole par 33 course. The layout is characteristic of Gancedo’s design style, adapting itself to the natural environment and terrain and integrating original features such as wall stones, a style which he describes as “hand-built”.
Spectacular sea and mountain views are a highlight of the course and from the elevated tees and fairways you can often see the island of La Gomera. The Fairways are generally wide with well-placed, white sand bunkers and water features providing challenge and visual harmony.
The round begins with a long par five (510m) with bunkers waiting to catch stray balls off the tee. The 2nd hole is short with a ravine to the right and a green on two levels makes it more difficult when the flag is placed at the back. The 4th follows a gentle slope downhill towards the sea and is crossed, at regular intervals, by the stepped stone walls of the former banana plantation. The 14th is an uphill par three and it is necessary to attack the green which is protected by a deep bunker in front. The 18th is a spectacular finishing hole, also a par 5, where the downhill aspect makes the green more accessible in two, although those wanting to be sure to avoid the trouble generally settle for three strokes.
The 9 hole ‘Los Lagos’ owes its name to the six beautiful lakes integrated in the course, which, together with the originality of the holes and spectacular bunkers, add a certain difficulty to the course, while making the game more interesting, fun and ideal for beginners or a quick nine.
Additional facilities include a driving range with two tiers of bays and multiple practice areas. The clubhouse has a bar and restaurant offering a snack menu and a buffet with a complete and varied range of Spanish and international dishes which can be enjoyed on a lively terrace with excellent views over the 1st tee and La Gomera island.
Overall Golf Costa Adeje offers a course that is spectacular, challenging but fair for a range of handicaps that, with its privileged mild climate, makes it an ideal place for playing golf all year round.
