Wallasey Golf links is set on the North Wirral coast with views of the Great Orme, Snowdonia, the Lake District, and the Liverpool skyline.
Founded in 1891, with the original layout designed by legendary course-architect Old Tom Morris, the club is famed for holding the first competition in the world that used the Stableford scoring system.
Over the years the course has been modified by several significant golf-course architects and champions including Alex Herd, Harold Hilton, James’s raid and later renovations by Donald Steel.
The scenic and atmospheric 18 hole, par 72 course at Wallasey remains a true classic links courses with sand dunes, undulating terrain, firm fairways, fast greens and a coastal wind. Many holes have raised greens and elevated tees. Although not overly long by modern championship standards, the prevailing north westerly wind, variety of holes and natural terrain make it a serious test where thoughtful golf wins over power.
The final four holes are among the toughest. The par 4, 18th hole offers a dramatic finish encapsulating all that Wallasey is about and has a green which sits close to the clubhouse windows so there is a classic “finishing-hole ambience”.
Wallasey has been described as ‘The Diamond in the Dunes’ where visitors will enjoy the challenge of the course alongside the well documented history and traditions of the game.
