West Lancashire Golf Club is situated on the coast of Blundellsands, Crosby which is famous for Antony Gormley’s “Another Place” beach sculpture installation.
Founded in 1873, West Lancashire Golf Club it is among the ten oldest clubs in England, boasting one of the most natural and testing links found anywhere in the British Isles and has been a venue of the Open Championship qualifying rounds on several occasions.
Originally designed by C K Cotton, the 18-hole, par 72, championship course is a traditional links course, lying within 200 acres of classic dune land, with a layout of two nine hole, loops with the 9th and 18th greens in front of the clubhouse. Imaginative and varied in layout, the course features a mix of inland-feeling holes that give a bit of shelter, and coastal holes that bring wind, sea-air and links-style exposure. Many of the holes are long, so distance helps, but the coastal dune terrain, wind, bunkers and firm, fast, subtly contoured greens require accuracy and course management.
The course starts with a demanding dogleg par 4 and keeps you challenged throughout with a great run from the 7th to 9th. After the demanding par 3 12th, you climb up to a splendid view from the elevated 13th tee and play continues with one quality links hole after another. The challenge is non-stop and will keep you on your toes from start to finish.
The club also has substantial practice facilities including a driving range, putting green and short-game areas with bunkers.
The modern clubhouse has a bar and restaurant offering a full clubhouse menu from light snacks through to full dinners.
With its natural setting, costal exposure, views and memorable layout the course at The West Lancashire Golf Club is a true links challenge.
