Vale do Lobo is a legendary resort in Portugal’s Algarve, spread over 450 hectares of landscaped grounds, with residential and holiday properties and endless facilities, surrounded by golden sands, sparkling waves and ancient pine trees.
Featuring two first class 18-hole championship golf courses – the Ocean Course and the Royal Course – the Vale do Lobo resort is truly one of the leading golf resorts in Europe. The stunning natural setting, ocean views and uniquely challenging holes are the epitome of golfing pleasure.
Recognised as one of Portugal’s most prestigious golf courses, the 18-hole, par 72 Royal Course was the second course to be built at Vale do Lobo and widely considered one of the Algarve’s ‘must-play’ tracks.
This flagship course meanders its way round the Vale do Lobo Resort, with rolling fairways set amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes, surrounded by wildflowers. Some holes play dramatically along the cliff’s edge, including the famous 16th, with cliff-top carryover – one of the most celebrated golfing images in the world, which has become the veritable symbol of golf in the Algarve.
“My favourite hole is the 16th on the Royal, which has to be one of the most challenging shots in the world if the wind is against.” Jarmo Sandelin, European Tour Professional and former Ryder Cup Player.
Before 10.30 it is compulsory to use a buggy on the Royal Golf Course.
The Vale do Lobo Golf Academy features first-class practice facilities. There is a netted area and a grass short-game practice area with bunkers and a challenging putting green next to the Clubhouse. The Clubhouse is also the home of Spikes – the popular restaurant and bar at the Parque do Golfe, with a large terrace overlooking attractive, tranquil gardens.
Green fees for 18 holes include free transfer from the Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago areas, subject to a minimum of 2 clients per van.
