St Annes Old Links is a superb traditional links course on England’s north-west coast, with a proud golfing heritage dating back to 1901. George Lowe, the club’s first professional, laid out the original nine holes, with Open Champion Sandy Herd later extending the course to eighteen holes.
St Annes Old Links has hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship and co-hosted The Amateur Championship 2022 alongside its neighbour Royal Lytham & St Annes. The 9th hole has been named “the Top 9th Hole in Great Britain” by Golf World magazine.
The 18-hole, 6907-yard, par-72 championship course features natural duneland terrain, strategic bunkering, coastal winds and fast greens demanding precise play.
One of its most standout features is the 9th hole, known as ‘Cannon’, a par three with a distinctive, elongated green protected by bunkers. Legendary American golfer Bobby Jones was so impressed when he played it in 1926 that he reportedly took measurements to recreate a similar hole back home.
Although it is not as renowned as its neighbouring course Royal Lytham & St Annes, St Annes Old Links is certainly not lacking in quality, character or challenge and is a is a fantastic addition to any golfing itinerary on England’s Golf Course.
