Founded in 1885, Hesketh is Southport’s oldest golf club.
Set among the Victorian villas of Churchtown, the course blends rich history with natural beauty, bordering a renowned nature reserve which is home to diverse birdlife and wildlife.
Designed by George Lowe and James Braid, 18-hole, par 72 course at Hesketh has long been a stage for championship golf and regularly hosts prestigious events and serves as a Regional Qualifying venue for The Open.
The course blends classic links terrain with holes weaving through coastal dunes, some running alongside the Ribble Estuary and then others in more sheltered areas, giving a mix of seaside-links style and inland links characteristics.
The course at Hesketh Golf Club offers a fair yet demanding test. The signature 14th hole has the toughest tee shot of the course with out of bounds to the right of the trees, and the clubhouse on the left, with a blind shot off the fairway to a large, bunker protected, green. The finishing holes of the course form a dramatic loop through the dunes back toward the clubhouse creating a classic coastal-links finale.
The clubhouse stands on the crest of a sand-dune with a terrace overlooking the course and surrounding areas. Both the Clubhouse and the Halfway House offer food and beverage facilities.
