Measuring 6802 metres from the back tees, and with more than 100 bunkers, Finca Cortesin is deservedly known as being one of Spain’s best golf courses. The harmonious relationship between the natural Mediterranean landscape and environment, make for a most attractive design.
Cabell B. Robinson’s course design and Gerald Huggan’s landscaping design capture the natural characteristics of the area where the course has been constructed. All of it together adds to a perfect balance between 20 varieties of flora, the typical Mediterranean pine forest and the perfectly manicured Bermuda grass on the course.
The Golf Travel People were fortunate to play here at Finca Cortesin recently and found the golf course to be a wonderful option for your golf holiday in the far south-western corner of Malaga, very close to the border with Cadiz and the other courses included in the great value Spain’s Finest package! On a windy day however the Finca Cortesin golf course can be a difficult animal to tame as many your shots seem to play into the teeth of the prevailing wind coming up off the Mediterranean far below.
A demanding par 72 of 6802 metres (7482 yards) from the back tees (but with a further choice of forward tees), make the course a perfect venue to host friendly games of golf right through to tournaments at the very highest levels. Finca Cortesin has been host of the Volvo World Match Play Championship for 3 years, one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments at a professional level and it is clear to see the reason why the course is selected as a challenging venue for the pro’s as well as us amateurs!
With a choice of 5 different tee positions, the course is accessible to all players; 5884 metres for men from the daily yellow tees and 4852 metres for ladies, including an “executive gold tee” with 5215 metres that can make the course very enjoyable for higher handicap male players and seniors.
The front nine is in all honesty a bit of a beast as it drops into the valley below the clubhouse and then climbs back around inland from the sea to end the 9 hole loop close to the wonderful clubhouse and hotel. The back nine on the other hand is a little gentler, but still with some extreme changes of elevation and the finishing 3 holes on a flatter area of land back up towards the closing stroke index 8, par 5 18th hole.
The excellent maintenance of the fairways and greens, and attention to every little detail, will make a round of golf at Finca Cortesin a challenging test of your ability whilst all the time surrounded by an aesthetically exceptional natural and unique environment.
The practice ground drops away steeply downhill in front of the clubhouse giving you the opportunity to hit towering shots into the well manicured greens below – a fun way to start your day here at Finca Cortesin – and with an on-site Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf the tuition and practice options are second-to-none in the area.
