Southport & Ainsdale is an 18-hole championship links golf club near Southport on England’s golf coast and is regularly ranked amongst the UK’s Top Courses.
The club was founded in 1906 and redesigned mid-1920s by legendary James Braid. Today the course still maintains its original Braid features whilst at the same time improvements, such as subtle lengthening, have enhanced its playing quality.
A true championship course that majestically sneaks and winds its way amongst the dunes, gorse, and heathland with natural undulating fairways and dune-contoured greens Due to its coastal location, sea wind often plays a big role in play alongside, bunkers, dune hollows and natural rough.
The course offers a tough but very fair challenge which rewards thoughtful shot-making and respect for lines.
The 16th hole is a long par 5 with a demanding approach which tests all elements of a golfer’s skill, facing the challenge of the renowned ‘Gumbleys Bunker’ and a very difficult, sloping green. Another interesting hole is the 8th, aptly named plateau, a par 3 with an uphill, narrow green which requires good distance control and precision to reach
Overall, this magnificent course at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club is exciting, challenging and is sure to leave golfers of all levels with a feeling of exhilaration after an immensely enjoyable day.
The historic original clubhouse overlooking the 18th green and first tee serves fresh food and beverage which can be enjoyed either in the club house lounge or on the outdoor patio.
