Tecina Resort, La Gomera. The Canaries’ quiet course.
Four star hotel above the Atlantic, a Donald Steel golf course on the same site, and an island that takes a forty-five minute ferry to reach. La Gomera is the trip Tenerife regulars upgrade to when they’ve done the standard a few times.

Atlantic clifftop
An island that rewards the effort of getting there.
Most travelling golfers heading to the Canaries don’t make it past Tenerife or Gran Canaria. La Gomera, the second smallest of the islands, is the upgrade move: smaller, quieter, with a single golf course that drops all the way to the Atlantic.
Tecina is the resort that sits on La Gomera’s south coast, above the village of Playa de Santiago. The Hotel Jardin Tecina is a four-star property with gardens descending to a cliff, three pools, and a funicular that takes guests to the beach below. It is family-run, low key, and built for slow holidays rather than busy ones.
Tecina Golf is the eighteen-hole Donald Steel course that shares the same site as the hotel. Several holes play along the clifftop with the Atlantic three hundred feet below. The greens are kept in remarkable condition for an island course. Tee times are not difficult to come by. It is one of the easiest golf clubs in Europe to access from your room.
The trip itself is part of what makes Tecina worth doing. You fly into Tenerife South, transfer to Los Cristianos, and take the Fred. Olsen Express ferry to San Sebastián de La Gomera, then a transfer along the south coast to Playa de Santiago. About four hours from runway to bar. The catch is that very few travelling golfers know any of this is here. Which makes it a brilliant find for the ones who do.
One hotel, one course, one journey.
Tecina is straightforward. The package is the hotel and the course, the journey is the ferry, and the trip is as long as you want to stay.
