Cyprus golf has five courses, and Elea is one of them. The four other courses on the island (Aphrodite Hills, Minthis, Limassol Greens, and the Secret Valley course) get more UK marketing attention. Elea, with Sir Nick Faldo’s only design on the island, gets less. Which means easier tee times, quieter rounds, and a course that’s quietly considered as good or better.
Elea opened in 2010 as Sir Nick Faldo’s signature Cyprus course. It sits in a private estate on a hillside above Paphos, with the Mediterranean visible from most of the back nine. The routing weaves through olive groves and limestone outcrops, leaving the natural land to define the holes rather than fighting it.
What makes Elea worth choosing is the conditioning and the pace. The membership is smaller than the resort courses, the tee times are easier to book, and the rounds tend to be quicker. For a UK group on a Cyprus week, that means you can plan three or four courses and actually play them on schedule.
We pair Elea with the Paphos hotel set we already favour: the Annabelle and Almyra (both five star, on the seafront) and the Leonardo (modern resort, quieter inland setting). All three are twenty minutes from the course. We can also build a multi-course week that takes in PGA National at Aphrodite Hills, Minthis in the mountains, and the brand new Limassol Greens an hour east. Four courses, seven days, one operator.
